| Experimental control line model. |
I thought you might be interested in my experimental control line Precedent Fun Fly model.
The reason for the model is that, on my return to control line flying, in my late middle age, I find that I fall over too easily so I needed a control line aerobatic trainer that could either slow down for a while or land easily. I also wanted something modern, all control line kits look as though they were designed in the fifties. The Precedent Fun Fly kit was mostly balsa and best of all cheap. I enjoy building so it was an ideal choice for conversion.
Modifications are - fitting a large alloy bellcrank, linking the flaps to the elevator push rod, fitting a lead out guide to the inboard wing and reducing the size of the huge fin. The motor is a new OS40LA. I fly it on 65 foot lines of 25 thou braided steel (for strength and reliability). The first flights were at a recent control line club meeting in front of a VERY sceptical crowd of dedicated control line team racers. The model is a real pussy cat, stable and soft on the controls and we amazed the control line guys with stop and go landings and taxiing demos, not the sort of thing usually done by control line models. It is a great success but needs bigger elevators and flaps to be really aerobatic, it's a bit heavy.
The radio gear is Futaba Skysport 6, the TX is clipped on to my trouser belt, see pic.
Hopefully I will re-train to achieve my real ambition, to fly a competitive class B team racer.
