Making modifications to any model can
often improve the look as well as the performance.
With the Magic Fun-Fly wire undercarriage already looking a
little tired and out of shape with the growing flight hours
on this model despite it being new. Bumpy Green lives up to
it's name when it comes to the testing of an aircraft's
undercarriage fixing.
Many a plane hath wrath felt the wrath of ye olde bumps.

What
was going on in July 1976 in the modelling world. Take a look
back at some snippets from a magazine of the era.
The
Editorial changed tune but still the same song. This time
encouraging the progression of electric powered flight for
model aircraft. Promotion & sponsorship of the All
Electric Fly-In to be held at St Albans M.A.C. in October to
encourage the quieter side of the sport. Cover picture was an
electric powered Graupner Mosquito aptly named Shh.. held by
St Albans M.A.C. member Dr. Nick Cook who is also on the
Electric Fly-In committee.
New
in from the United States was this Mathes five-function radio
control system. Imported by World Engines and boasting some
of the latest electronic features. Supplied with receiver, 4
rotary servos, flight battery, dual charger and a host of
fitting accessories the Mathes set was the way forward for
r/c model transmitters.
Motor
Miscellany with Peter Chin goes inside the latest offerings
from Irvine with the new .40 front induction engine, Super
Tigre's new ST51complete with noisy exhaust & a sneak
preview of the newest OS from Japan in the guise of the OHV
FS60 (over-head valve four stroke 10cc)
Sandown
Model Symposium featured heavily this month with model
aircraft and boats included in the reports. Another
successful outing was enjoyed by the now famous Philip Lawson
& John Palmer Concorde G-BSST and an impressive 'splits'
demo with 8 gliders aloft at once from BARCS.
Two
new silent flight contenders were reviewed starting with the
Slingsby HP14c from Avoncraft and distributed by Micro-Mold.
Bob Dudley did the building and flying honours and reported
on it's fine flight characteristics from both the slope and
flat field with bungee launching.
Next up, Chris Pullen builds and flies the Ridge-Racer from
Solent Sailplanes. Equally at home on the pylon racing
circuits or performing aerobatics on the slope. Hailed as the
fastest and most responsive glider flown by Chris, which
would seem to be high praise indeed.
Ribble
cross country meet leads off for the group shots. Held at
Pendle Hill by the RVMSA (Ribble Valley Model Soaring
Association) who are still going as a matter of fact visit
their current website http://www.rvmsa.co.uk/ . Second shot shows the West Mendip cross country
event and was won no less the Chris Foss himself, flying a
Phase Lift. Which leads right onto the next article just
nicely.
New
in the shops for July 1976 was the Chris Foss - Middle Phase.
Something all modellers must have heard of at one time
