Flight of the Pheonix... |
Hi all I'm going to start this month a little differently from the norm, or as Max Bygraves would say 'I wanna tell you a sto-o-o-o-ry'. I, like a lot of you out there, fly some electric models, my electric models are mainly kit built stuff like the Mini Lazer 3D, the Twin Jet and a Nebula E to name but a few.
I also fly one or two built from plans all this lot are what you may call standard electric model's in that they are all flown with 7 or 8 cell battery packs. My speed 400 size models are flown on 500 to 1100 mah packs and the speed 600 and the Twin Jet are flown on 2000 to 3000 mah packs, all standard stuff to the average modeller that is shall we say dabbling with electric's. (That will get one or two of you writing in ).
Two very well known and flown machines, both of which I have had the pleasure of flying...I now have to go back in time to the year 2000. I went to the British Electric Flying Association millennium bash at Walsall airport that year and I was amazed at the type and size of models being flown with electric power. Now amongst these models was what looked like a Wot4 (some of my fellow club members are convinced I can sniff out a Wot4 from miles away!!) however this was not the case.
It was an own designed model called Bubbles, by David Theunissen, to cut a long story short I got a copy of the plan and built one. Mine is powered by a Speed gear 700 swinging a 12x8 prop on 12 2400 mah cells with a 50 amp controller. All was not well from the start. I bent it on more than one occasion and I did give up with it, until I was told to try a separate receiver battery as I had been using the BEC on the speed controller and that made all the difference hence the title of this months ramblings, I now have a very nice smooth flying electric powered model that is very much like a Wot4.

Indoor electrics. But only just... |
Staying with electric powered models I have been sent some information and photos of a indoor electric powered glider, nothing unusual about that I hear you say, but what's different about this indoor model is it's size.
A 4 meter electric wot?...
An' it flies too...This glider has a 4 mt wingspan!!! yes 4 mt.Its conventionally built from balsa and ply with a speed 300 motor and a simprop 5:1 gearbox turning a slow fly prop running off a 6 cell pack of 350 mah cells for a all up weight of 600 grams, just look at the wing flex when you see the photo of the model being held and the photo of it in flight.

Special request... |
I now have two requests for some information have a look at the photo of the gas turbine powered wot4!! Yes gas turbine powered is this your model or do you know anything about it? If so please contact me with any information.
![]() Now that could be fun but Whos is it?... |
Request number two is for information about a glider have a look at the photo. Now all I can tell you is the model is called Madslide. it's a French aerobatic 3D design and that is all I know about it, looking at the photo I would think it's made from EPP but if you know more please do tell. I would like to thank 'Gray' for the photos and permission to show them to you all, you can contact me at the following: waynesworld@bumpygreen.co.uk
![]() Ever seen one of these?.. |

A big Thank you... |
Staying with photos have a look at the construction photos these are photos of the next aircraft to come out of the Wayne's World hanger, one is of the Glens models Cap 232 this will have a new Irvine 53 in it and as you can see it's very close to covering.
Glens cap 232 ready for covering...
WW1. fighter what could it be???.Now the next model well I'm not going to give a lot away but all I will say is it's a semi scale model of a WW1 fighter and I'm going to put a Laser 80 in it!!
Thank you to all of you that have contacted me to say how much you liked last months ramblings about the gliders, can I just say that Bumpy Green is a modelling community and not just a internet magazine so you too can make a contribution not just through me but direct to Bumpy Green, It really is very easy to do. Just send your scribblings in a word or notepad document by e-mail to: webmaster@bumpygreen.co.uk. Pictures should be sent as a seperate e-mail. If you have any questions about writing articles or a regular column then send them to the same adress.
So lets see more of you chipping in. I'll be at Sandown with the boys from B.G. on Saturday 4th May 2002, so you can ask me yourself how It's done.
