The Bumpy Green crew visited Chesham Model Flying Club on Tuesday 15th May 2001.
Having gone in and met with Al Spicer who agreed to let us put some BG leaflets out on the chairs, we also pinned up some screen shots from the BG web site as well as some of the visitor stats. Choddy, Grot and I talked informally to a few of the members then met up and headed for a quick pint in the bar downstairs. We had come to see a talk to be given by Neil Tidy of Laser Engines in Hertfordshire

We got back to the room just as he started.
Neils talk began with a detailed explanation of the workings of 2 stroke and 4 stroke engines with an accompanying slide show . The latter was explained in great detail taking in cam timing, valve location and carburation, ultimately leading to an in depth look at Laser engines and how they are manufactured differently using the results of years of study and testing making them one of the most efficient and reliable engines for sport and scale aeromodelling.
Neil took a short break which gave the Bumpy team to have a chat. Neil certainly knows his stuff and having studied automotive engineering at college I was able to appreciate this presentation all the more.
We chatted to a number of club members who had already seen the web site and encouraged those who had not to do so. We were introduced to Neil Tidy of Laser, Steve Dorling who writes the Engine Torque column for RC Model World.
As everyone came back to the meeting room Neil continued his slide show with some superb pictures from around the world at various championship venues. Each slide carried it's own story, some humourous, some not so funny. But all planes featured had Laser engines of one type or another.

Dave, Steve Dorling, Neil Tidey and Al Spicer
We also got to meet John Barber, owner, builder & pilot of Fluff, featured in the GasTurbine from water video clip. Also a key member of the club.
We have hopefully secured a visit to see his workshop in actionA couple of guys had brought mini I.F.Os (indoor flying objects) which I had hoped would fly but the hall was smaller than they were comfortable with so they stayed grounded (or tabled as it was)
We would all like to thank Neil Tidey and Steve Dorling for a very informative evening. And hopefully see them at Bumpy green in the not too distant future. Also thanks to Chesham Model Flying Club for inviting us to this event. we had a great evening and look forward to doing it again soon.
CHEERS GUYS.
